International Students

Career Resources for International Students

International students should be aware that there are strict visa restrictions for working in the U.S. They can work in the U. S. only under limited conditions. All visa related questions should be directed to the International Students and Scholars Service.

Part-Time Jobs On Campus

Part-times jobs on campus are often the primary vehicle through which international students gain valuable work experience while studying at UIUC.

Internships

International students can take internship opportunities with a special work permission. In general, you will have to be authorized for CPT (Curricular Practical Training) to be able to work for an internship. Check with the International Students and Scholars Service for detailed information about CPT.

Extra-Curricular Activities

In the U.S., skills and experiences obtained from extra-curricular activities are greatly valued. Be sure to convey involvement in these activities to demonstrate your solid work-ethic, leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, especially if you have had little previous work experience.
