Guide to the Application Process

Important Points to Remember

  1. Fill out the web-based AMCAS (medical), AACOMAS (Osteopathic), or AADSAS (dental) application as soon as possible.
  2. Filling out applications is time consuming. If you submit your application early, you will have your supplementary forms to fill out during the summer when you are less busy. Get everything done EARLY. The answer to peace of mind is DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!
  3. It is strongly suggested to have your LEO credential file completed BEFORE you leave school in the spring. You are advised to have four evaluations in your file, but are permitted NO MORE THAN TWELVE. When a request is made to forward a file, you may choose which letters you wish to be sent.
  4. We DO NOT have a pre-medical advisory committee on this campus. The letters on file at The Career Center are accepted in place of the committee letter. Ignore evaluation forms you receive from individual schools.
  5. We forward your letters by UPS whereas you receive an e-mail receipt which is used as evidence that your letters were received by the admissions office by the deadline.
  6. Don't wait until the last minute to request that your letters be forwarded. Situations do occur that can delay processing. When deadlines approach, there is always a backlog of requests. "Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on our behalf." PLEASE DON'T PROCRASTINATE.
  7. Be aware that every other fall, admissions officers from medical and dental schools in the state are invited to our campus to speak with all interested students. This is publicized each time through our calendar, our newsletter The Health Careers Chronicle, posted on the dry erase board in our library, and in the Daily Illini.
  8. Be aware that for formal interviews, you should dress as a professional. Your appearance plays a large part in a first impression.
  9. If you apply Early Decision Program (EDP), your AAMCAS application must be received by the AAMCAS by AUGUST 1st.
