Thinking About Becoming a Physician?

Physicians (MDs or DOs) are health care professionals who diagnose illness and injury, prescribe and administer treatment and educate their patients on how to manage and prevent disease. After earning a bachelor’s degree, medical students will attend school for four years. Following their medical education, further training in a residency is required.

Preparation and Requirements

Pre-Med students are expected to establish a strong academic record and participate in activities that better develop their interpersonal skills, their knowledge of the medical profession, and their leadership abilities. These types of activities often include things such as RSO involvement, employment, clinical exposure, volunteer experiences, shadowing, organizational memberships, and community service.

Application Process

There are many steps and requirements to apply to medical school, including an entrance exam, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Pay close attention to the instruction manual for the centralized application service and requirements for individual programs. Meet with a Health Professions advisor to make sure you’re on track.

Application Timeline

The application cycle can take up to one year to complete. Think about your ideal timeline: when do you plan to start medical school? We recommend you meet with a pre-health advisor to assess your readiness to apply.
