Thinking About Becoming a Nurse?

Registered Nurses (RNs) are health care professionals who provide direct patient care, while they observe, assess and record symptoms. A major role for RNs is to educate and advocate for their patients, as they provide the basic care plan. RNs may specialize in a variety of areas, pursue advanced degrees and have the opportunity to work in different types of health care settings.

 

Preparation and Requirements

Pre-Nursing students are expected to establish a strong academic record and participate in activities that better develop their interpersonal skills, their knowledge of the nursing profession, and their leadership abilities. These types of activities often include things such as employment opportunities, nurse shadowing, volunteer experiences, organizational memberships, and community service.

Application Process

There are many steps and requirements to apply to nursing school, which might include an entrance exam, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Pay close attention to the instruction manual for the centralized application service and requirements for individual programs. Meet with a health professions advisor to make sure you’re on track.
