As a Navigator, you will be a peer advisor, facilitate CC-I programs, and have input into the design and implementation of career development programs.

International Career Navigators serve as peer mentors to students seeking to advance their professional and career development. Navigators have an understanding of the Career CertificateInternational (CC-I) program and serve as program facilitators during this nine-week program each semester. As part of the CC-I program, Navigators lead a cohort of six to nine CC-I program participants and cater to the career development needs of the participants.

International Career Navigator position is a 5 hours per week commitment that will be compensated at the rate of $15.00 per hour. Navigators will be paid between September-December / February-May. Exact dates of employment will differ each academic year.

International Career Navigators serve in their position for a preferred duration of one academic year with a possibility of extension beyond that time. The minimum time commitment expected is that of one whole semester.

  • Participate in the Navigator Training and Orientation at the start of each semester
  • Assist in the facilitation of the CC-I program modules over nine weeks
  • Provide 1:1 guidance to six to nine CC-I participants within their cohort
  • Conduct a 30-minute check-in meeting with each of the CC-I participants in their cohort between the third and sixth week.
  • Participate in the post CC-I session, CC-I review meetings
  • Help CC-I participants immerse in the CC-I program through peer coaching
  • Track the progress of CC-I participants on the course modules on a week-to-week basis and provide feedback
  • Coordinate the planning of campus-wide career development programs / events
  • Help publicize the CC-I program as well as other international career programs

  • Open to all current graduate-level students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. 
  • Applicants must be enrolled as an on-campus student and not be enrolled in a completely online program. 
  • Must demonstrate an understanding, awareness, and preferred experience of working in a country outside of the country of origin. 
  • Must have an understanding of U.S. immigration regulations such as CPT and OPT. 
  • Preference will be given to students with internship / work experience in the U.S. 
  • Prior participation as a student in the Career Certificate - International (CC-I) program is preferred but not required. 
  • Must be able to attend all training sessions, the interview process, and all CC-I program sessions

  • Students enrolled in residential degree programs.
  • Alumni for one year following graduation are eligible for one 30-minute career coaching session, on-site use of the Career Resource Center, and access to Handshake.
  • Alumni interested in health professions are eligible for pre-health advising at any time.
  • Students enrolled in online programs and students who did not receive a degree are not eligible for The Career Center services or programs.
