Type of Position

This is a PAID part-time position requiring approximately 10 - 12 hours per week. Starting date as early as January 2020.

Description

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, creative and ambitious intern who will help strengthen our brand presence -  online, throughout the Illinois community, and across multiple social media platforms. In addition, our intern will be responsible for coordinating and assisting with digital communications and video efforts for The Career Center. This is a great opportunity to build your professional portfolio while gaining valuable work experience!

Graduate students with knowledge and experience of social media who are looking for a great, part-time position are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duties

  • Promote The Career Center and Career Center events through social media and digital advertising campaigns.
  • Be creative and develop engaging, yet relevant content to be distributed across various digital and social media platforms.
  • Maintain The Career Center’s online presence and increase student engagement through social media and digital advertising.
  • Develop, update, and manage The Career Center’s editorial social media calendar.   
  • Manage digital promotion requests from The Career Center staff.
  • Create and strengthen relationships with campus partners through digital cross-promotion of their career-related events and services.  
  • Assist with writing and creating social media and viral campaigs for The Career Center. 
  • Help explore social media best practices, new platforms, and current trends to stay relevant, and engaging.
  • Attend bi-weekly Marketing Team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Marketing. 

Requirements

  • At least sophomore standing as of January 2020. Graduate students strongly encouraged to apply. 
  • Open to all majors, particularly communications, journalism, marketing, advertising, creative writing, and English
  • Experience related to marketing, social media, website, advertising, promotions and communications
  • Experience managing social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel
  • Available to work 10 – 12 hours per week

Skills

  • Ability to write content for multiple platforms (social media, web, digital communications)
  • Experience or working knowledge of Hootsuite to schedule and manage social media posts preferred, but not required.  
  • Experience and knowledge of digital marketing, advertising, and creative development preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in graphic design and in using design software (Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.) is a plus, but not required. 
  • Ability to manage, organize and take lead on projects.
  • Ability to actively manage and complete tasks independently and on-time.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and a positive can-do attitude.

Compensation

This position is paid hourly, commensurate with educational background and experience.
