Mock Interview Coaches prepare and deliver customized mock interviews for students by providing individual feedback to individuals seeking to practice interviewing and improve their interviewing skills. Students seeking mock interviews may be preparing for upcoming job/internship interviews, admission to graduate and health professional programs, or simply completing a class assignment. 

Mock Interview Coaches have flexible hours (up to 10 hours/week) and are compensated $16/hour.

 Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Conduct customized mock interviews for Illinois students and provide constructive feedback  
  • Build rapport with students to provide excellent service delivery; demonstrate sensitivity and the ability to interact respectfully with all people and understand individual differences  
  • Review resumes and other documents in advance and develop specific questions for each interview  
  • Assess and suggest helpful and relevant insights for improving interview skills  
  • Recommend practical resources and referrals to career-related questions and specific needs  
  • Review and critique Online Personal Statement submissions  
  • Participate in training throughout the semester related to conducting interviews, evaluating interviewing skills, and delivering feedback  
  • Present to classes and/or student organizations regarding topics such as interviewing, job/internship searching, LinkedIn, and personal branding on an as-needed basis  
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Employer Relations and Professional Connection

 Required Qualifications 

  • Must be a currently enrolled graduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign at the time of employment  
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgment, and discretion  
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team  
  • Strong organizational, time management, customer service, and problem-solving skills  
  • Experience in conducting interviews or working one-on-one with students 
  • Must be able to commit an academic year for the position 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Graduate students interested in careers related to human resources, training, and development are strongly preferred 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of recruitment and job search processes; interview and business etiquette; different interview styles and categories  
  • Experience with information technology, including the use of online resources and presentation software 
  • Experience developing and/or presenting programs or workshops
