Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Participate in Mentor Training and Orientation at the start of the Fall and Spring semester.
  2. Assist in the facilitation of FOCUS Scholar workshops.
  3. Provide 1:1 peer mentoring to 6-8 participants.
  4. Create a sense of community amongst assigned participants.
  5. Track the progress of FOCUS scholars through program requirements.
  6. Participate in FOCUS workshops and review meetings for the program.
  7. Assist with campus wide career development programs/events.
  8. Help publicize FOCUS scholar and community programs.

  1. Prior participation in the FOCUS Scholar program is preferred but not required.
  2. Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student and have completed sophomore year.
  3. Must be a first-generation college student.
  4. Preferably be a member of a group historically underrepresented in education (Native American/Alaska Native, Black/African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian, or Other Pacific Islander).
  5. Must be available to commit to 5 hours of engagement with the FOCUS program per week.
  6. Must be able to attend all training sessions, the interview process, and all FOCUS program sessions.
